Regeneration Strategy and Area Action Plan

Roger Tym & Partners has been advising East Riding of Yorkshire Council on this major town centre regeneration and marina since 2003.  We have played a key in the preparation of:
  • Regeneration Strategy
  • Town Centre Masterplan and Delivery Strategy
  • Bridlington Town Centre AAP, and
  • continuing planning and development economics work
We are core members of the delivery team and responsible for the preparation of the Area Action Plan to provide a statutory planning basis for the major mixed-use schemes and enabling works.

Our work has included socio-economic analysis, demand projections (retail, tourism, employment), and the coordination of work by property, marina, leisure and transport specialists.  From this, we produced a vision and set of enabling objectives for Bridlington's regeneration, together with an appraisal framework to assess project options.  Our regeneration strategy was formally adopted by the Council in 2004 and we were retained to lead the consultancy team to secure its delivery.

We proposed that the Council concentrate on two major schemes:

  • Burlington Parade - a retail, small business space and housing-led major mixed-use development in the town centre
  • A marina integrated with the historic harbour

The completed scheme for Burlington Parade and the Marina will see:

  • 31,200 sq.m retail and leisure floorspace;
  • 2300 sq.m of offices and office-type workspace
  • up to 600 new dwellings
  • a new, good quality, full service hotel
  • 6200 sq.m leisure floorspace
  • 320 berth marina
  • public realm works including the Gypsey Race Park
The Burlington Parade scheme will create an estimated gross total of some 1900 new jobs for Bridlington.
