Falkirk Helix Eco Park
Roger Tym & Partners helped Falkirk's Helix Eco Park win £25m from the Big Lottery Fund
The Helix project has community involvement and environmental sustainability at its core and will transform over 300 hectares of unused urban scrubland between Falkirk and Grangemouth into an innovative eco park. It is a great example of the renewal of low value green belt through innovative and environmentally sustainable regeneration. The finished project will see:
-
over a quarter of a million new trees
-
34km of paths and cycle tracks
-
a new section of canal linking and extending the Forth and Clyde Canal into the Forth Estuary
-
two major pieces of iconic art – the Kelpies – by sculptor Andy Scott.
In November 2007, it was awarded £25m by the Big Lottery Fund – the largest of three grants awarded from a selection of 313 initial applicants.
Nick Skelton says "We are delighted to have been involved in such a positive project that will firmly put the Falkirk and Grangemouth area on the map. We have enjoyed working with everyone on the project team, and extend our warmest congratulations to the project partners."We have been involved in the project from the outset. We provided economic assessment at Stage 1 and prepared the project business plan, a key part of the Stage 2 application. Our team refined a number of project ideas before describing the concept, detailing capital implications and producing a revenue stream analysis. The team also supported the client partners for the assessment visits undertaken by the Big Lottery Fund's assessment team.
