National Land Use Database
Roger Tym & Partners has been collecting England's national land use data, on behalf of central government and its partners, since 1998.
The data we collect quantifies the capacity of England's brownfield land to accommodate new growth. It is a vital tool in setting national, regional and local planning policies and is part of the National Indicator Dataset.
The NLUD database includes over 50,000 hectares of land across all English local authorities; at any one time we can be managing the returns from several hundred authorities. The data is used by Government to monitor the takeup of brownfield sites and estimate the capacity of the remaining stock to accommodate new development. It also helps identify problem areas where intervention may be required to regenerate long term vacant and derelict sites.
We have developed a range of tools to help collect the data and assist local authorities. This includes site audits, desk-based assessments and analysis. We also instruct new local authority officers in data collection and the scope of the database.
Working in partnership with our clients and using our tools, we have succeeded in collecting data from all local authorities over a rolling two year period.
