Cristina Howick is an economist. Cristina’s main interest is the application of economic and market analysis to land-use planning and spatial policy.

In recent years much of Cristina’s work has related to planning for economic development. She led the development of analytical methods for employment land reviews and related evidence base studies and has produced over 40 such studies for local authorities, sub-regions and regions. Cristina advised developers, landowners and planning authorities on the development of many employment sites and areas and appeared at many planning inquiries and examinations. She produced regional guidance on planning for economic development in four English regions, advised Communities and Local Government on Planning Policy Statement (PPS)4 and is currently advising the Welsh Assembly Government on new planning policy and guidance.

Cristina is experienced in planning for housing and infrastructure. She led the development of RTP’s Local Choices Toolkit, which uses state-of-the-art modelling to generate and test local housing and employment targets, and has applied the Toolkit in studies for housebuilders, landowners and local authorities. On the planning, delivery and financing of infrastructure, her current and recent work includes major studies in growth areas.

Cristina also has special expertise on databases and information systems to support spatial planning.
