Affordable Housing in Colchester
March 2009
Roger Tym & Partners has been appointed to undertake a study of affordable housing viability for Colchester Borough Council.
The work will focus on the potential for small sites to deliver affordable housing, recognising the needs in rural parts of the borough for such housing. The 2008 Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) identified that a target of 45% could theoretically be justified but initial viability work has suggested that developments would not be viable with a requirement of over 40%. This assessment will directly inform an emerging SPD on affordable housing.
RTP secured the commission as a direct result of its expertise in infrastructure planning and viability assessments, coupled with a strong track record of working in Colchester. The work is expected to be completed in April 2009.
