Birmingham Retail Study
December 2008
Roger Tym & Partners has been appointed by Birmingham City Council to carry out a retail study of the entire city.
The study will identify the amount of retail development that is required over the lifetime of the Council's LDF and the most appropriate locations for meeting these needs. A particular aim of the study is to identify the scope for retail development in three new or expanded centres proposed in the Birmingham Prospectus (Perry Bar, Medway and Selly Oak). The study is expected to be completed by Christmas 2008.
In 2006, we undertook the West Midlands Regional Centres Study for the Regional Assembly. This produced broad forecasts of comparison retail floorspace requirements for the Region's 26 strategic centres, including Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield. The new Retail Needs Assessment study will drill down into greater detail at the local authority level.
