Canada Water planning application submitted
February 2009
Roger Tym & Partners has helped developer Conrad Phoenix submit a planning application for Site C (Decathlon) in the Canada Water regeneration project area of Southwark, London.
RTP is the developer's planning consultant and has been providing strategic planning advice to Conrad Phoenix throughout the project. The application documentation, which included an Environmental Statement, was substantial (filling six archive boxes).
Canada Water is a significant regeneration area in the Borough, where the Council has just begun consultation on the Issues and Options stage of an Area Action Plan.
The proposals for Site C, which fronts Canada Water itself, include retail, housing, office space, improved landscaping and public spaces, as well as new space for community uses.
The proposals sit within the context of the London Borough of Southwark's aspirations for the wider regeneration of the Canada Water area. The final plans for the site have evolved to incorporate feedback from the local community, following an extensive period of public consultation. M&N Communications has managed stakeholder and community consultation throughout.
Southwark Council will now carry out consultation on the proposals, which include the construction of an expanded Decathlon store alongside smaller shops and restaurants.
