Leading London economist joins RTP

May 2009

Duncan Melville joined Roger Tym & Partners this month from the GLA, where he was Deputy Chief Economist of its economics unit.

He has over 20 years' experience in economics and public policy, and is joining RTP's London office to add to the firm's labour market economics expertise.

Duncan says, “I have worked with RTP on several occasions over the years. They have always impressed me professionally and personally. I am delighted to now have the opportunity to work for RTP and particularly to use my knowledge and experience in labour market analysis to add to its existing capability in this area. In the current climate of rising unemployment, policies to help people back into work will continue to rise in importance. I'm excited by the challenge of working with RTP to help policy makers understand and learn from past experience and apply it to current policy development.”

During his six years at GLA Economics, Duncan's work included leading GLA Economics' input into the revised London Plan, London's spatial development strategy and the current review of the London Plan. He was responsible for the long run employment projections that support the London Plan and supported the case for investment in London in the run up to the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review. Duncan has considerable experience of labour market research, especially around the issue of worklessness in London. He has previously worked for HM Treasury and the New Zealand Department of Labour.

Duncan holds a BA in economics from Cambridge University and an MSc in economics from the London School of Economics.
