Climate change and low carbon transition
Assessing the implications for business and government
The recent PPS1 supplement on climate change introduced new requirements for the reduction of carbon emissions and improvement of resource efficiency through the planning system. It has important implications for business and local government. Our experience in evidence base studies and sustainability has a key role to play. We build the evidence base, advise on economic consequences and assess the impact and viability of policy, economic trends and specific projects. We work to ensure that PPS1 requirements are met, recommendations are deliverable and proposals are robust for examination. We:
- work with local authorities on the preparation of their climate change policies
- encourage the use of renewable and low-carbon technologies in new developments
- help set targets for the use of decentralised and renewable or low-carbon energy
- assess the impact of sustainability requirements on development viability
- define what a low carbon economy might look like and how it might be delivered
- advise on the scope of policies for development plans
