Developer contributions policy

Working to deliver development and help secure necessary and appropriate contributions

Calculating appropriate developer contributions is now a challenging policy area.  However, developers can only afford so much and contribution requirements can hinder the delivery of new development.

Securing appropriate, viable and realistic contributions for infrastructure and affordable housing requires both robust planning policy and careful monitoring.

The “Blyth Valley” case in 2008 was a timely reminder to local authorities that the economic viability of development needs to be robustly evidenced and reflected in planning policy. In this instance, the Court of Appeal quashed the Council's 30% affordable housing requirement as being fundamentally unsound

Roger Tym & Partners has a track record of innovative and ground breaking work, developing a sub-regional tariff and the evidence base for a county-wide CIL.  Through our viability and infrastructure work, we understand the prioritisation process and the need to deliver development while ensuring the necessary short and long term contributions are secured.
